Before I applied to graduate school I was used to making work specifically to sell. The following pieces are a sample of the first work I made specifically to have fun and explore......here's how it started:
I decided to apply to graduate school, so I drove up to Alfred to meet with Anne Currier and impress her with my work. The meeting was brief, and I remember she told me, "you have some technical skill, but your work has no content."
Of course, I was not happy about this feedback, and I set out to make 'weird art stuff' just to get into school; basically, working out of spite. In fact, I believe "Jurassic Barbi" was directly inspired by Anne Currier's comments and suggestions.
However, in the process of this angry work I discovered pure enjoyment (and the first inklings of 'content').

Thank you Anne.
